Rationel’s top swing windows and terrace doors feature in a mixed tenure development by Allenbuild for Notting Hill Housing.
Designed by architects CGL Architects, Abbey House is a range of one, two and three bedroomed apartments in the Bermondsey regeneration of Southwark, London. All properties have their own private balconies or gardens, an important feature of this development. The development is constructed around a communal courtyard area, and situated close to some of London’s most fashionable areas. 42 of the properties are for shared ownership and the remainder for affordable rent.
Sean Balcombe, the surveyor for the project says: “we chose the Rationel product for its thermal and acoustic performance. Being adjacent to a mainline over-ground railway we had very specific and varying acoustic requirements on each elevation, requirements Rationel were able to meet or exceed. To accommodate the heavy panels required to achieve our specification, a robust and well-tested frame with suitably rated ironmongery was offered which gave us some comfort in terms of future maintenance issues.”
Rationel’s windows achieved a 41dB Rw sound reduction for this project. Their standard window decibel reduction is 34dB Rw.
“The performance of the overall window was the primary attraction to the product but the low profile frame was also a consideration which enabled us to procure within the design intent for the scheme,” continued Sean.
Abbey house features Rationel Aura Plus (triple glazed) top swing and top guided windows, and terrace doors. The properties are for private sale and with some for shared ownership for the Housing Association.
“Working with Rationel was a pleasure,” continues Sean Balcombe, “thanks largely to the excellent service provided by the team. Any problems we did have were resolved quickly and to our mutual satisfaction. Deliveries were on time and as planned to site, and lead-in timed for manufacture and delivery were slightly better than some competitors.”
The development is a short walk to the Underground Station Jubilee Line to central London, and not far from Canary Wharf, and Stratford, (Olympic park). It contains unusually an impressive Grade 2 listed War Memorial - which is built into the side of the building which lists over 1,000 names of those lost in battle in World War 1.
Allenbuild was delighted with the Aura Plus windows from Rationel for this project. A spokesperson said: “The window hinge quality is first class, and I have used Rationel products for around 15 years now, and have even been to see the manufacturing process in the factory for myself in Europe.”
