“Respect for the existing ecology and sloping topography of the site was paramount” says architect Luiz Perezabad from Formation Architects in London, the development architects. “This has been used to create a development of well integrated dwellings which maximise sunlight and daylight to all dwellings.”

Rationel’s products in this development include the Aldus top swing windows, top guided windows and glazed terrace doors and entrance doors to the apartments. The Aldus range from Rationel is an aluminium clad product, giving it extended
life in use.

The cladding on the exterior protects the natural timber from all types of weather, and gives a contemporary finish to the product designed in Scandinavia. The top swing windows allow the window to be fully reversed and lock in reverse position for safe cleaning. In the top guided windows opening is controlled by tracks and slides. Adjustable friction ironmongery enables the user an unlimited choice of opening positions.

Environmentally friendly

Rationel windows are crucial in a project like this where the use of natural light is so important to the designers of the development. “The high quality details and materials used across the site will make a positive contribution to the local built environment, as well as including a number of energy saving features including a district heating system for the apartments, and photo-voltaic roof panels throughout the site,” continues the architect.

Rationel’s terrace doors are ideal for access to balconies, gardens and patios. They have inbuilt friction brakes, operated by turning the handle down in any given position. The doors are hung on grey powder coated adjustable hinges and fitted with a minimum of three point locking espagnolette bolt.
