The beginning For some years the founder Richard Rohde Nielsen had been involved in production of internal doors. But he missed his old handicraft, carpentry and started his own production of windows. In 1954 the first windows were made in a newly built plant in Sdr. Felding.
Back then the products were sold through timber merchants in Denmark and Rationel soon became one of the biggest suppliers of quality timber windows and doors. Several expansions have taken place and in 1971 Rationel was one of Northern Europe’s most modern window manufacturers.
An international company Today Rationel is an international company with activities in Denmark, United Kingdom, Ireland and Poland. The product range includes quality windows and doors made from timber or timber/cladding for both modern and classic buildings. In Denmark the products are mainly sold through timber merchants for both new build and refurbishment. In United Kingdom and Ireland the products are primarily sold for larger projects. In Ireland windows and doors are also sold directly to the end user through own showrooms.
The future With modern production plants and products that fully live up to the demands in the Building Regulations, Rationel is among the front-runners also when we talk about tomorrow’s energy efficient windows and doors. Rationel’s products are thought through and customer focused. We are committed to your project, trustworthy and will aim to keep our promises. All together we call it – windows with vision.
Ownership Today Rationel is 100% owned by DOVISTA, a subsidiary company within the VKR Group. The VKR Group is partly owned by a foundation and partly family-owned. The VKR Group has about 15,000 employees in more than 40 countries and was founded in 1941 by civil engineer Villum Kann Rasmussen.
